Adriano Morini is the team manager of Draco, the Italian team in 2009 winner with the Belgian Bertrand Baguette in the World Series by Renault. For the team of Pontremoli, now moved to Valencia in Spain, it's only the last trophie accumulated in these twenty years of history, boasting eight continental titles and nine drivers ferried in Formula 1. Draco has literally crushed the competition in World Series by Renault in 2009, winning the title for teams and drivers.
Where lies the strength of his team?
"In five years we have won twice the second palce and once the third, being amongst the first. Our strength lies in always work with constancy and application in a very professional way, to do the possibility to the drivers to have the same means and the same opportunities to work the best. The main thing is the passion for this work, without which we would not have the urge to push so much ahead. "
This year you had two drivers very different as Baguette and Marco Barba. How did you manage them well?
"Every year there is always a big rivalry between the drivers who are in the same team, and often they also have a very different character. About our last drivers, at the beginning of the season, for what we have seen in testing, the favorite was Barba. Then, with the development of the pressure that we live in every race, it appears the driver who has more character. It is important to always give the drivers the peace of mind and put them on the same level, thereby avoiding the suspicion that there may be favoritism."
Can you give us an opinion on his champion?
"Baguette is a driver who has his strong point in his intelligence. He can adapt according to situations in the race. For example, Felipe Massa, who I had as driver in Euro 3000, he is very talented, he has spontaneous qualities because it is in his nature. Other drivers instead worked hard to achieve a result, they must manage themselves and what happens during the weekend of the race. "
How have you helped Baguette to win this title?
"A couple of years ago I do not know who would bet on Bertrand. When we sign a contract we want that each of us will take his responsibility. From my hand, when there is a problem with the car, I always support the driver, because the main thing is to stay close with him in times of trouble to ensure that he can have the mind free from unnecessary worries. "
Many champions have gone for your team, who has left the most signs?
"Every driver has his personal characteristics, but all remain in our hearts. Rubens Barrichello who passed from us 20 years ago has left his mark, as well as Massa, or the same Baguette. All drivers who have been with us, champion or not, have become part of this family. "
What are the goals for the next test and for the 2010 season?
"The goal is always to win. And of course we must consider that we have two drivers very young like Berthon and Leal, and we'll do a bit of effort to be straight to the top, but we must also see who will be our opponents before making predictions. "
How did work your new drivers?
For Berthon will be the first year and he will do so much experience. It is undoubtedly very fast, but we will need to test his strength in the race throughout the championship. It will be a year where we have to do much more of the last season to offer our experience to the drivers. Leal had a suffered first year, but I think that he is now enough mature to show his full potential".
How do you value the level of WSR?
"I've lived in this league five years and I can guarantee that all teams have the same means to fight. I think that in Renault 3.5 the strongest team and driver can really come out because it is an honest championship and it highlights the real values of all ".
Do you think it is necessary to make changes to improve the format of the weekend?
"Now we are at a very good level. Maybe we could take a step back, lowering costs given the great moment of crisis and general confusion that affects our world. We can trying less, I remember that in the past we was coming directly competing in qualifying and races, and I can assure you that shows the same talent. In Formula Renault 2000 and other championship for young drivers, it's fair to make them go many miles, but I think at our level it is assumed that the driver is a professional. "
Two other Italian teams have left the league, but you persevere in your choice. How it is born the decision to race in WSR and remain in this category?
"When this series was born, I comes from the Euro 3000 Series and I had the opportunity to talk with Renault. First there were the Nissan World Series and Formula Renault V6, which have merged to form the WSR. There were many teams who were already on the list of acceptance, but we won in the international series and we have been assured a place. We are staying here because it's a good league, where we can work very well and that every year in December we have already signed contracts for next year."
Have you moved your home in order to be closer to F1 team Campos Meta. Now for the Hispanic team, the situation is a little complicated, as this will influence on your plans?
"We moved because we have had for some years Valencian drivers with us, and the Spaniards have asked us to transfer our property in Spain. Adrian Campos has proposed to bind ourselves to him and we accepted, thus creating an important sector to prepare drivers to Formula 1. The Campos program is not binding for our decisions and not lose the support provided by the Community of Valencia.
